{"id":79224,"date":"2024-11-27T08:24:11","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T16:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2024\/11\/27\/state-and-federal-officials-post-thanksgiving-related-reminders-for-marijuana-consumers\/"},"modified":"2024-11-27T19:46:13","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T03:46:13","slug":"state-and-federal-officials-post-thanksgiving-related-reminders-for-marijuana-consumers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2024\/11\/27\/state-and-federal-officials-post-thanksgiving-related-reminders-for-marijuana-consumers\/","title":{"rendered":"State And Federal Officials Post Thanksgiving-Related Reminders For Marijuana Consumers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/1f967-1.png\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\"> <\/p>\n<p>Multiple states, as well as federal officials in the U.S. and Canada, are issuing reminders about their marijuana laws ahead of Thanksgiving, with some urging adults to consume responsibly if they plan to partake the holiday\u2014and others warning people to avoid traveling across the border with cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>In notices and social media posts, the states of Connecticut, New York, Ohio and Virginia have each advised consumers about issues such as the need to secure their cannabis products and find alternative transportation if they plan to travel after using marijuana.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Canadian Border Services Agency are both making it clear that crossing the border with marijuana is prohibited.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what federal and state officials are telling cannabis consumers before Thanksgiving:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Canadian Border Services Agency<\/h3>\n<p>While marijuana is legal nationwide in Canada, it remains strictly illegal to bring it across the U.S. border without a permit from Health Canada. Violators could be \u201csubject to arrest and prosecution,\u201d the Canadian Border Services Agency said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2023, we welcomed over 86 million travellers and intercepted more than 72,200 kg of prohibited drugs, cannabis, narcotics, and chemicals, representing an increase of close to 30 percent from 2022,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>For marijuana, the agency\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/border-services-agency\/news\/2024\/11\/travelling-for-american-thanksgiving-long-weekend-the-cbsa-gives-tips-for-a-smooth-trip.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">message<\/a> is simple: \u201cDon\u2019t bring it in. Don\u2019t take it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Connecticut<\/h3>\n<p>Connecticut\u2019s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) issued a reminder that while off-premise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/connecticut-marijuana-dispensaries-can-open-on-thanksgiving-but-liquor-stores-must-close-state-officials-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sales of alcohol are prohibited on Thanksgiving, marijuana dispensaries will remain open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Liquor stores will be closed, grocery stores can\u2019t sell beer and even breweries and restaurants are prohibited from selling carry-out drinks, so DCP Commissioner Bryan Cafferelli <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/dcp\/news-releases-from-the-department-of-consumer-protection\/2024-news-releases\/celebrate-responsibly-this-thanksgiving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> \u201cbe sure to plan ahead\u201d if you plan to drink on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Cannabis, however, \u201ccan be purchased on Thanksgiving Day at any licensed cannabis establishment,\u201d the advisory says. \u201cConsumers are encouraged to check the retailers\u2019 holiday hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The department put out a similar advisory ahead of the holiday last year amid confusion over the state\u2019s alcohol and marijuana rules for the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Connecticut officials are also advising that \u201cadults who choose to consume cannabis are reminded to do so responsibly, including storing cannabis products in their original packaging, locked up and out of reach of children and pets.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)<\/h3>\n<p>In an advisory published on Tuesday, CBP also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/local-media-release\/cbp-provides-travel-tips-holiday-season-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offered<\/a> holiday travel tips for those crossing the border to and from Canada, reminding people that \u201cmarijuana remains illegal in the United States federally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not cross the border with any marijuana or marijuana products,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<h3>Massachusetts<\/h3>\n<p>The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission sent a reminder on Wednesday that \u201cdriving under the influence of cannabis is illegal,\u201d advising people who wish to partake on Thanksgiving to use public transit or ride with a sober friend.<\/p>\n<p>People who want to purchase legal marijuana can use delivery services instead of driving to a dispensary, the agency said, helpfully providing a link to a directory of such businesses.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This Thanksgiving, remember: driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal.
