In several measures, however\u2014including physical functioning and pain\u2014patients\u2019 age played a significant role, \u201cwith older participants displaying less improvement than younger participants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The longitudinal study, published in the Journal of Cannabis Research last week, followed 438 new medical cannabis patients who completed \u201csemi-structured interviews\u201d both before they began using cannabis and again three months into use. Most participants were recommended marijuana to treat either anxiety disorders (61.9 percent) or pain (53.6 percent).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew medical marijuana users experienced improvements across all domains of HRQoL over the first three months of medical marijuana use for any of the more than 20 qualifying medical conditions for use in\u201d Pennsylvania, the authors wrote. \u201cNotably, participants endorsed greater than 20 percent increases in ratings of their role limitations due to physical health problems and emotional problems, and in social functioning after three months of medical marijuana use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Researchers described the study as \u201cone of the largest longitudinal studies of quality of life in individuals using medical marijuana in the US.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe use of medical marijuana for three months was associated with improvements in physical, social, emotional and pain-related HRQoL,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/jcannabisresearch.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s42238-024-00245-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it says<\/a>. \u201cOngoing surveillance of HRQoL in individuals with physical and mental health conditions can help to treat the \u2018whole person\u2019 and to capture any collateral impact of selected therapeutic approaches as treatment initiates and progresses. Results from this study can help patients, their caregivers, and their providers to make more informed and evidence-based decisions on whether to incorporate medical marijuana into their treatment regimens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lead study author Michelle Lent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcom.edu\/campuses\/philadelphia-campus\/news-and-events\/pcom-news\/medical-marijuana-users-see-short-term-gains.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a press release that her team\u2019s research captured how patients\u2019 \u201clives and health status changed after using these products. inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn\u2019s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) that found that <a href=\"https:\/\/marijuanamoment.net\/medical-marijuana-improves-quality-of-life-for-crohns-and-ulcerative-colitis-patients-study-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cannabinoid therapy helped reduce disease activity and improved quality of life in patients with the chronic diseases<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In March of this year, a separate study in the Journal of Health Research and Medical Science found that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/white-house-cannabis-meeting-this-week-newsletter-march-14-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">\u201ccannabinoids show potential in improving disease activity\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and quality of life in patients with ulcerative colitis.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a study out of Australia last year found that patients with chronic health conditions saw\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/medical-marijuana-patients-see-improved-quality-of-life-and-lower-pain-anxiety-and-depression-after-three-months-of-use-study-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">significant improvements in overall quality of life and reductions in fatigue<\/a>\u00a0during the first three months of medical marijuana use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatients experiencing anxiety, depression, or chronic pain also improved in those outcomes over 3 months,\u201d that study found.<\/p>\n<p>Findings of another study last year that examined marijuana\u2019s neurocognitive effects \u201csuggest that prescribed medical cannabis may have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/study-finds-no-evidence-that-medical-marijuana-causes-cognitive-impairment-in-patients-with-chronic-health-problems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">minimal acute impact on cognitive function among patients with chronic health conditions<\/a>\u201d\u2014could be a relief to long-term cannabis patients who are concerned about potential neurological drawbacks of the drug.<\/p>\n<p>Yet another study last year, published by the American Medical Association, found that the use of medical marijuana was associated with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/marijuana-is-associated-with-significant-and-sustained-health-improvements-american-medical-association-study-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">\u201csignificant improvements\u201d in quality of life for people with chronic conditions<\/a>\u00a0like pain and insomnia\u2014and those effects were \u201clargely sustained\u201d over time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"o2fyyPnpAQ\">\n<p><a
