Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), says are designed to \u201cmotivate people with a vision of progressive governance under Democratic majorities in the House and Senate and a Democratic White House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under a criminal justice section, the caucus is reiterating its call for federal cannabis legalization. It comes in stark contrast to a recent Republican Policy Committee memo urging GOP members to oppose even incremental reform proposals such as a bipartisan marijuana banking bill.<\/p>\n<p>The progressive agenda specifically encourages legislative and administrative action to \u201creduce criminalization and incarceration through sentencing reform, legalizing cannabis, expunging records, providing restorative justice, and an accelerated and reformed clemency process for people with marijuana-related convictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProgressives are proud to have been part of the most significant Democratic legislative accomplishments of this century,\u201d Jayapal said in a press release on Thursday. \u201cWe have made real progress for everyday Americans\u2014but there\u2019s much more work to be done.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For too long, the majority of this country has been barred from the American promise of equality, justice, and economic opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>We have to meet people&#8217;s urgent needs AND rewrite the rules to break down these barriers.<\/p>\n<p>Our Progressive Proposition Agenda can get it done.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Progressive Caucus (@USProgressives) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USProgressives\/status\/1780985649622921401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 18, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>\u201cWith the Progressive Proposition Agenda, Democrats in Congress can meet the urgent needs people are facing, rewrite the rules to ensure majorities of this country are no longer barred from the American promise of equality, justice, and economic opportunity, and motivate people with a vision of progressive governance under Democratic majorities in the House and Senate and a Democratic White House,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/progressives.house.gov\/press-releases?ID=F55B6428-AD77-438A-9799-887BD915ED87\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The cannabis reform proposals are among the items CPC says \u201cDemocrats can pass with congressional majorities that will deliver immediate, tangible results for everyday Americans as well as rebuild systems that have held communities back for too long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the Republican Policy Committee set out a demonstrably different agenda in a recent memo that formally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/house-gop-committee-urges-opposition-to-marijuana-banking-bill-saying-gateway-drug-causes-violence-depression-and-suicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposes marijuana banking legislation and a separate bill to remove past cannabis use as a disqualifying factor<\/a> for federal employment and security clearances, while broadly criticizing the substance as a \u201cgateway drug\u201d that causes \u201cviolence, depression and suicide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/congressional-progressive-caucus-urges-biden-to-expedite-marijuana-scheduling-review-and-push-for-federal-guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Executive Action Agenda that CPC put forward last year<\/a>\u00a0urged President Joe Biden to direct federal agencies to \u201cexpedite\u201d the ongoing marijuana scheduling review and reinstate guidance protecting state cannabis programs from federal interference.<\/p>\n<p>That preceded the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) disclosing their recommendation to move marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
