The price per gram of legal marijuana, meanwhile, continues to fall to record lows.<\/p>\n<p>The sales milestone\u2014roughly $7.05 billion\u2014includes $5.81 billion in recreational purchases since adult-use sales began in late 2018 as well as $1.24 billion worth of medical marijuana receipts over the same time period.<\/p>\n<p>CCC\u2019s sales data for the medical market extends back only to December 2018, when the commission assumed oversight of the system.<\/p>\n<p>In February of this year, meanwhile\u2014the most recent full month for which data is available\u2014adult-use retailers tallied $127 million in sales, marking a year-over-year monthly increase of about $6.4 million. Medical marijuana sales for this past February were $16.2 million\u2014about $2.5 million less than a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The price of marijuana in Massachusetts, meanwhile, continues to fall\u2014from a high of nearly $15 per gram of flower when stores first open to almost $5 per gram this year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-93577\" Commission<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In February, the average price to adult-use consumers was $5.32 per gram, a record low in the commonwealth, according to the state <a href=\"https:\/\/masscannabiscontrol.com\/open-data\/sales-and-product-distribution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of product types, past-week sales data from the commission show marijuana flower makes up the plurality of sales ($13.1 million), followed by vape products ($6.0 million), raw pre-rolls ($4.8 million), infused edibles ($3.6 million), concentrate ($1.4 million) and various others.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_93586\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-93586\" class=\"size-large wp-image-93586\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-12-at-12.07.19-1024x678-1.png\" alt=\"Adult use marijuana Commission<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This past December, the state set a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/massachusetts-sets-marijuana-sales-record-in-december-with-total-purchases-in-2023-reaching-1-8-billion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">monthly sales record of\u00a0 $158.7 million worth of legal cannabis products<\/a>, according to CCC figures\u2014bringing the state\u2019s total recorded sales for 2023 to nearly $1.8 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in Massachusetts, officials are exploring how to regulate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/massachusetts-officials-eye-regulation-of-thc-infused-hemp-products-sold-in-liquor-stores-and-smoke-shops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THC-infused hemp products that are sold in liquor stores and smoke shops<\/a>, with lawmakers holding a hearing on the matter last week.<\/p>\n<p>A workforce development program that receives federal funds also recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/massachusetts-workforce-program-faces-restrictions-in-supporting-marijuana-industry-due-to-federal-prohibition-memo-says-but-hemp-sector-is-ok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned partners that it\u2019s restricted from using those resources<\/a> to aid the state-legal marijuana industry\u2014though it can use the money to provide services to the hemp industry, which is federally legal.<\/p>\n<p>Reforms around psychedelics are also in the works in the commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p>With a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/massachusetts-lawmakers-will-be-forced-to-consider-psychedelics-legalization-measure-that-activists-petitioned-for-state-official-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">psychedelics legalization initiative pending before lawmakers<\/a> ahead of a potential vote on the November ballot, a legislative committee recently advanced a separate bill that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/massachusetts-lawmakers-approve-psilocybin-bill-to-legalize-for-therapeutic-spiritual-and-medicinal-purposes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">legalize psilocybin therapy<\/a>\u00a0and set up a framework to license facilitators who would supervise medical, therapeutic and spiritual applications of the drug.<\/p>\n<p>The development comes on the heels of local leaders in the city of Medford\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/eighth-massachusetts-city-adopts-psychedelics-decriminalization-policy-also-pushing-changes-to-pending-state-ballot-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">adopting a resolution to deprioritize arrests around psychedelic plants and fungi<\/a>\u00a0and also urge county prosecutors to stop pursuing cases of possession, cultivation or distribution of the substances.<\/p>\n<p>Medford was the eighth Massachusetts city to adopt such a policy, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/salem-massachusetts-lawmakers-vote-to-decriminalize-psilocybin-mushrooms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">Salem<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/local-massachusetts-lawmakers-unanimously-approve-psychedelics-decriminalization-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">Somerville<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/cambridge-city-council-decriminalizes-psychedelics-and-urges-police-to-end-drug-arrests-more-broadly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">Cambridge<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/fourth-massachusetts-city-approves-psychedelics-reform-as-movement-grows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">Easthampton<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/third-massachusetts-city-approves-psychedelics-decriminalization-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">Northampton<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/local-psychedelics-decriminalization-measure-stalls-in-amherst-massachusetts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">Amherst<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/seventh-massachusetts-city-votes-to-deprioritize-arrests-for-psychedelic-plants-and-fungi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">Provincetown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/massachusetts-psychedelics-activists-say-local-election-clerks-certified-more-than-enough-signatures-for-2024-legalization-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">activist-backed legalization initiative<\/a>\u00a0now before state lawmakers, meanwhile, would create a regulatory framework for lawful and supervised access to psychedelics at licensed facilities. If lawmakers decide not to legalize psychedelics by May 1, activists would then have until July 3 to submit at least 12,429 additional valid signatures to put the proposal before voters on the November 2024 ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Gov. Maura Healy (D) recently drew attention to testimony around a veterans-focused bill that she\u2019s introduced to create a psychedelics work group that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/massachusetts-governor-files-bill-to-create-psychedelic-therapy-working-group-for-veterans-as-activists-push-legalization-on-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">study the therapeutic potential of substances such as psilocybin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another\u00a0bill\u00a0would authorize the Department of Public Health to conduct a comprehensive study into the potential therapeutic effects of synthetic psychedelics like MDMA.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
