Ian Mackey (D), would build on the state\u2019s voter-approved cannabis legalization law, reforming law enforcement policies in a way that mirrors steps taken by other jurisdictions like Maryland and New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Mackey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-police-couldnt-use-marijuana-odor-to-justify-searches-under-new-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed an earlier version of the bill in 2021<\/a>, but it did not advance out of committee.<\/p>\n<p>The one-page <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/Bill.aspx?bill=HB2132&amp;year=2024&amp;code=R\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measure<\/a> says that \u201cthe odor of marijuana alone shall not provide a law enforcement officer with probable cause to conduct a warrantless search of a motor vehicle, home, or other private property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several legal cannabis states have similarly imposed the restriction on police, including Maryland, where the governor allowed legislation to go into law last year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/maryland-police-wont-be-able-to-use-marijuana-odor-as-basis-for-searches-under-bill-that-governor-has-allowed-to-become-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blocks warrantless vehicle searches based on marijuana odor alone<\/a>. New Jersey\u2019s Supreme Court has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/new-jersey-supreme-court-rules-that-police-improperly-used-marijuana-odor-in-vehicle-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already recently upheld similar rules in a case involving an improper search<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Missouri, the implementation of a vote-approved 2022 legalization law has also led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-expunges-100000-cannabis-offenses-in-first-year-of-legalization-even-as-some-courts-miss-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expungement of more than 100,000 marijuana cases from court records<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As of November, meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-marijuana-businesses-have-sold-more-than-1-billion-in-cannabis-products-in-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">marijuana sales in the Missouri passed the $1 billion mark<\/a>\u00a0for 2023, which includes both adult-use and medical marijuana.<\/p>\n<p>Of tax revenue received by the state, lawmakers recently announced that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-spends-17-million-in-marijuana-revenue-to-fund-veterans-services-drug-treatment-and-legal-aid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">$17 million will be used to fund veterans health, drug treatment and legal aid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014<br \/>\n<strong>Marijuana Moment is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tracking more than 900 cannabis, psychedelics and drug policy bills<\/a> in state legislatures and Congress this year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/marijuanamoment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patreon supporters<\/a> pledging at least $25\/month get access to our interactive maps, charts and hearing calendar so they don\u2019t miss any developments.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9128 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/MM_Bill_Tracker_V5_blank-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Learn more about our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">marijuana bill tracker<\/a> and become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/marijuanamoment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supporter on Patreon<\/a> to get access.<br \/>\n\u2014<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More broadly, Missouri\u2019s marijuana system has experienced considerable turbulence this past year, with tens of thousands of products <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-faces-industry-pushback-over-marijuana-product-recall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">recalled over the allegedly illegal use of hemp-derived cannabinoids<\/a> from outside the state. In November, officials moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-officials-revoking-marijuana-company-license-over-alleged-out-of-state-imports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">revoke the business license of Delta Extraction<\/a>, the company at the center of the controversy.<\/p>\n<p>The incident put state marijuana regulators\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-marijuana-regulators-defend-lab-testing-rules-in-light-of-massive-product-recall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">on their heels regarding practices at product testing labs<\/a>, which had already come under fire earlier in 2023 over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-officials-adopt-new-marijuana-testing-rules-to-combat-lab-shopping-for-thc-potency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">alleged practices of \u201clab shopping\u201d as producers sought higher THC potency numbers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another company, Retailer Point Management, which does business as Shangri-La in Columbia, recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/missouri-marijuana-retailer-settles-labor-dispute-after-terminating-employees-who-tried-to-form-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">settled a dispute with a union over 15 charges of unfair labor practices<\/a>.
