Marijuana sales are booming in the Northeast, with three states in the region\u2014Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island\u2014all hitting new records in July.<\/p>\n

Maine retailers sold $20.8 million in cannabis in July, which is the third month of record-setting totals in a row. So far in the first half of the year, the state has seen<\/a> more than $118 million in marijuana sales, setting the stage for a new yearly high compared to the 2022 total of about $159 million.<\/p>\n

In Massachusetts\u2014the most mature market of the three states\u2014adult-use cannabis sales reached a record $136 million last month, according to the Cannabis Control Commission (CCC). That\u2019s in addition to $18.7 million in medical cannabis purchases, for a total of $154.7. This is the third month in a row that the state has seen record highs in the market, with June setting the prior record at about $152 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The state\u2019s year-to-date sales<\/a> is $915.1 million, indicating that Massachusetts will cross the $1 billion mark for the year by the end of this month.<\/p>\n

Rhode Island retailers sold<\/a> $6.8 million worth of recreational cannabis last month. The state has set monthly adult-use sales records every month since the recreational marijuana market launched in December. Another $2.7 million in medical cannabis products were purchased, for a record monthly total of $9.5 million.<\/p>\n

As markets continue to come online and mature in states across the Northeast, it\u2019s become clear that there\u2019s ample consumer demand. And with increased legal access, it appears that more people are making the transition to their state markets and away from illicit or out-of-state sales.<\/p>\n

Connecticut\u2019s July sales total haven\u2019t been released yet, but the state reached a record $24 million in marijuana purchases<\/a> in June, which marked the sixth month since its adult-use program started.<\/p>\n

Outside of the Northeast, Illinois retailers sold $140 million worth of recreational marijuana products<\/a> in July\u2014the strongest sales of the year and second highest monthly total for the state since the adult-use market launched in 2020.<\/p>\n

Maryland legal cannabis sales also hit a high of $87.4 million in July<\/a>, the first month since the recreational market launched, state data shows. In the first weekend of adult-use sales alone,\u00a0the state yielded over $10 million<\/a>\u00a0in combined medical and recreational purchases.<\/p>\n

Missouri has been\u00a0selling about $4 million worth of marijuana per day<\/a>\u00a0on average since the state\u2019s adult-use market opened up in February\u2014and the state saw a record $121.2 million in cannabis purchases in June.<\/p>\n

Michigan marijuana sales\u00a0reached a record of nearly $261 million<\/a>\u00a0in June, state data shows.<\/p>\n
