\n<\/span>The Senate Banking Committee<\/span><\/a> scheduled a hearing on marijuana banking issues for next Thursday, May 11. <\/span>Chairman Sherrod Brown (D-OH)<\/span><\/a> said he was planning to \u201cmove quickly on\u201d the SAFE Banking Act.<\/span><\/p>\n

Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee (D)<\/span><\/a> signed a bill legalizing interstate marijuana commerce pending a federal policy change. Now all three West Coast states\u2014California, Oregon and Washington\u2014have cross-border cannabis trade laws on the books.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>A new federal study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/span><\/a> shows that high school student marijuana use was trending up from 2009-2013\u2014before legal cannabis dispensaries started opening\u2014but has been on the decline since then.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>A Texas senator<\/span><\/a> filed an amendment that would have allowed voters to decide on marijuana legalization\u2014but it was blocked as non-germane by the lieutenant governor, who presides over the chamber.<\/span>

\n<\/span>The Jefferson County, Washington Board of Commissioners<\/span><\/a> passed a psychedelics decriminalization measure.<\/span>

Lisa Murkowski (R)<\/span><\/a> tweeted, \u201cI helped introduce the SAFE Banking Act to ensure that law-abiding cannabis business owners can utilize safe financial services instead of forcing them to continue all-cash operations, which only serve to increase a risk of crime.\u201d<\/span>

\n<\/span>Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA)<\/span><\/a> tweeted, \u201cForcing businesses to deal in all cash makes our communities less safe. This [marijuana banking] bill is an investment in changing that.\u201d<\/span>

Ilhan Omar (D-MN)<\/span><\/a> filed a resolution condemning police brutality that notes that \u201cthe United States, especially under the auspices of the wars on drugs and global terrorism, has in recent decades dramatically increased its influence on the tactics, equipment, and purpose of policing around the world.\u201d<\/span>

\n<\/span>Florida<\/span><\/a> lawmakers sent Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) a bill to decriminalize fentanyl test strips.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Connecticut\u2019s<\/span><\/a> House majority leader discussed the challenges of ensuring social equity in the cannabis industry. Separately, the state\u2019s marijuana <\/span>Social Equity Council <\/span><\/a>approved $4 million for community reinvestment programs.<\/span>

\n<\/span>A <\/span>North Carolina<\/span><\/a> senator said she supports a medical cannabis bill even though she has concerns about its licensing provisions.<\/span>
