{"id":64261,"date":"2023-04-25T08:53:48","date_gmt":"2023-04-25T16:53:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2023\/04\/25\/nevada-assembly-passes-resolution-urging-congress-to-federally-legalize-marijuana\/"},"modified":"2023-04-26T19:47:43","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T03:47:43","slug":"nevada-assembly-passes-resolution-urging-congress-to-federally-legalize-marijuana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2023\/04\/25\/nevada-assembly-passes-resolution-urging-congress-to-federally-legalize-marijuana\/","title":{"rendered":"Nevada Assembly Passes Resolution Urging Congress To Federally Legalize Marijuana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/MM_Bill_Tracker_V5_blank-132.jpg\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1500\"> <\/p>\n<p>The Nevada Assembly has approved a resolution urging Congress to legalize marijuana, sending it to the state Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation from Assemblyman Reuben D\u2019Silva (D) cleared the chamber in a 37-5 vote on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>It states that cannabis has \u201cmany well documented medical uses,\u201d yet remains a Schedule I drug under the federal Controlled Substances Act (CSA), \u201calongside heroin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resolution goes on to note that Nevada voters have approved ballot initiatives to legalize medical and recreational marijuana, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-pharmacy-board-to-appeal-court-ruling-on-unconstitutional-marijuana-scheduling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a state district court ruled last year<\/a> that the state Board of Pharmacy\u2019s designation of cannabis as a Schedule I substance is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>Further, because of the federal classification of marijuana, patients are \u201cunable to receive medical insurance prescription health coverage\u201d for cannabis, and they\u2019re also not covered under health savings accounts.<\/p>\n<p>It goes on to discuss the financial barriers that marijuana businesses face under federal prohibition, namely the lack of access to banking services that forces many licensed businesses to operate on a cash-only basis that makes them targets of crime.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Also, a shoutout to Assembly and Senate Republicans including <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Danielle4nv1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@Danielle4nv1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hammond4nevada?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@hammond4nevada<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PKONeillNV?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@PKONeillNV<\/a>, and others who came on as co-sponsors here and demonstrated this isn&#8217;t a partisan issue, but the will of Nevada voters as embodied within our own constitution. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zyOx5T5f7m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">https:\/\/t.co\/zyOx5T5f7m<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Athar Haseebullah, Esq. That vote happened weeks before the legislature approved a pair of cannabis legalization and sales bill that the governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/delaware-governor-will-allow-marijuana-legalization-and-sales-bills-to-become-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is allowing to become law without his signature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A congressional resolution filed by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) in 2021 similarly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/feds-should-legalize-marijuana-and-expunge-drug-records-congressional-resolution-urges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called on federal policymakers to legalize cannabis<\/a> and expunge all prior non-violent marijuana convictions.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Schumer (D-NY) said last week that he will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/watch-live-schumer-talks-marijuana-reform-plans-at-4-20-event-inside-the-u-s-capitol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reintroducing his comprehensive cannabis legalization legislation<\/a>, though the prospects of passage are doubtful this session given that Republicans now hold the majority in the House.<\/p>\n<p>In Nevada, lawmakers have taken up a number of drug policy bills so far this session, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-lawmakers-consider-bill-to-increase-marijuana-possession-limit-and-remove-barriers-to-industry-employment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proposal to increase the state\u2019s cannabis possession limit<\/a> and remove barriers to employment in the marijuana industry.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee approved a revised bill that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-senators-approve-bill-to-create-psychedelics-working-group-to-plan-for-safe-accessible-and-affordable-access\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">create a new working group to study psychedelics<\/a> and develop a plan to allow regulated access for therapeutic purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-sports-regulators-move-to-formally-stop-penalizing-fighters-over-marijuana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is also considering amending their rules<\/a> to formally protect athletes from being penalized over using or possessing marijuana in compliance with state law.
