Ben Cohen of Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s fame has just launched the eponymously named\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bensbest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ben\u2019s Best Blnz<\/a>, or B3, a registered nonprofit cannabis brand with advocacy at its core, reports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/90870358\/ben-of-ben-jerry-trades-ice-cream-for-cannabis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Fast Company<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>B3 isn\u2019t beating around the bush with its mission to \u201cdecarcerate, expunge and deschedule,\u201d either. \u201cOur mission is to sell great pot and use the power of our business to right the wrongs of the War on Drugs,\u201d states the company\u2019s website. With that in mind, 100% of B3\u2019s profits will be divided among three organizations: 10% will go to the Last Prisoner Project, another 10% to the Vermont Racial Justice Alliance and the remaining 80% will be administered in partnership with NuProject as grants to Black cannabis entrepreneurs. A low-interest loan fund for BIPOC cannabis entrepreneurs has also been established.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The brand\u2019s striking visual identity was developed by Eddie Opara and Jack Collins of Pentagram, the world\u2019s largest independent design agency, who have created a bright and bold aesthetic across the brand\u2019s product packaging, website and must-have merch. As well as being incredibly appealing, B3\u2019s packaging provides another advocacy touchpoint. It features protest quotes by renowned abolitionist Angela Davis and the late former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, while highlighting the work of Black artists and designers.<\/p>\n<p>B3 is launching with high-THC single-strain flower, pre-rolls and full-spectrum live resin vapes. Just as social reform is a high priority for the company, so too is growing exceptional cannabis with \u201cminimize negative environmental effects in terms of energy use, chemicals and toxics that end up in the environment.\u201d According to the B3 website, all products are \u201cProduced by some of the most conscientious independent growers around.\u201d It also claims to contain \u201cNo non-organic anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/New-York-Cannabis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/New-York-Cannabis.jpg\" alt=\"New York Cannabis\" class=\"wp-image-62547\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">PHOTO Rosman Rai<a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisnow.com\/category\/current-events\/legal\/\" \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4><strong>New York Moves to Let Medicaid Pay for Medical Marijuana<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A bill permitting state-funded insurance payments to cover the cost of medicinal cannabis for patients moved easily out of a state Assembly committee Tuesday, bringing New York lawmakers one step closer to passing the measure, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenmarketreport.com\/new-york-moves-to-let-medicaid-pay-for-medical-marijuana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Green Market Report<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Assembly bill, A04713, is supported by Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes and passed the Assembly Health Committee on an 18-7 vote. The measure has a companion bill in the state Senate, although it hasn\u2019t been heard yet.<\/p>\n<p>If passed, the bill would allow patients on Medicaid and those who rely on state-funded insurance plans, such as Child Health Plus, workers\u2019 compensation and EPIC programs, to have all of their medical cannabis costs paid for by the state rather than having to pay for it themselves, as almost all medical marijuana patients do nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would classify marijuana as a \u201cprescription drug,\u201d \u201ccovered drug,\u201d and \u201chealthcare service\u201d under state law for the purposes of Medicaid and state insurance reimbursements. The law would also allow private insurers to pay patients back for medical marijuana use, but it would not mandate that private insurers provide coverage.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/WIR-Afroman.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/WIR-Afroman.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-64856\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">PHOTO Paul Archuleta\/FilmMagic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4><strong>Afroman Is Being Sued by Cops Who Raided His House<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Seven police officers are suing hip-hop artist Afroman\u2014whose legal name is Joseph Foreman\u2013because they believe his music videos improperly featured images of them searching his home. The four deputies, two sergeants and one detective from the Adams County Sheriff\u2019s Office in Ohio accused Afroman of taking advantage of their \u201chumiliation\u201d and \u201cmental discomfort\u201d in a complaint filed on March 13, reports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/merryjane.com\/news\/afroman-just-got-sued-for-using-a-clip-of-cops-raiding-his-house-in-music-video?infinite=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Merry Jane<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the lawsuit, the police officers requested up to $100,000 of the artist\u2019s earnings from the songs, music videos, concert tickets and merchandise sales that they claim were advertised using police film without their permission\u2014a misdemeanor violation under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/codes.ohio.gov\/ohio-revised-code\/chapter-2741#:~:text=Chapter%202741%20%7C%20Right%20Of%20Publicity%20In%20Individual's%20Persona&amp;text=Section%202741.01%20%7C%20Right%20of%20publicity%20in%20individual's%20persona%20definitions.&amp;text=As%20used%20in%20this%20chapter,these%20aspects%20have%20commercial%20value.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ohio Revised Code<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, the officers are suing Afroman for invasion of privacy because the video in question was obtained during their home raid. A local judge obtained a search warrant for Foreman\u2019s residence last summer, citing probable cause to look for signs of drug usage, trafficking and kidnapping. During the raid, Foreman\u2019s door was forced open by an armed SWAT team, who searched through all of his possessions but only discovered a vape pen and a few joints.<\/p>\n<p>The hip hop star shared the video of the raid that was captured on his home security system in various social media posts. Additionally, he used the images in the music videos for the songs \u201cWould You Help Me Fix My Door\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cannabischeri.com\/food\/recipes\/lemon-pound-cake-afroman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lemon Pound Cake<\/a>,\u201d both of which explicitly reference the raid. In the lawsuit, the police officers claim that Foreman showed their faces in the video without their permission, which caused them \u201cemotional distress, shame, ridicule, loss of reputation and humiliation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs claim that after seeing Foreman\u2019s posts, some people made fun of them, making it riskier for them to perform their jobs. Additionally, they assert that they\u2019ve been the target of death threats made by \u201canonymous members of the public who have viewed some of Defendant\u2019s above-described comments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy video footage is my property,\u201d Afroman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CqGTr5CuucV\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said in a social media post<\/a>. \u201cI used it to identify criminals, who broke into my house, stole my money and disconnected my home security system\u2026 After they stole my money they became criminals. After they became criminals they lost their right to privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/WIR-Pennsylvania.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/WIR-Pennsylvania.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-64857\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">PHOTO Zack Frank<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4><strong>PA Lawmakers Propose Selling Adult-Use Cannabis Through State Liquor Stores<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A new plan being considered by state legislators would fundamentally alter Pennsylvania\u2019s cannabis retail rules, allowing it to be legalized for adult-use use and sold in state-run liquor stores, reports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.erienewsnow.com\/story\/48603431\/pa-lawmakers-propose-selling-recreational-marijuana-through-state-liquor-stores\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Erie News Now<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the legislation, customers would be able to buy both products from the same retailer. Additionally, the law would allow anyone to grow up to six cannabis plants while simultaneously expunging convictions for minor cannabis offenses.<\/p>\n<p>State Senator Dan Laughlin (R) says that although he favors legalizing and taxing cannabis for adult-use use, he doesn\u2019t support the proposal to sell it through the liquor store system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody in Pennsylvania that wants to use cannabis already is,\u201d said Sen. Laughlin. \u201cI\u2019m just trying to regulate it, put it in a safe environment to buy it and tax it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Keystone States\u2019 Democratic governor, Josh Shapiro, has included the legalization and taxation of adult-use cannabis in the executive budget for 2023\u201324.
