David Monson (R) about the feasibility of manufacturing hemp-based flags, and he explained that this is a process that\u2019s been done for \u201cthousands of years\u201d and that the crop has been used to make products ranging from paper to automobiles.<\/p>\n<p>Monson also took a question about whether smell-related issues could arise with people burning hemp flags, though he assured the fellow lawmaker that it wouldn\u2019t be a problem.<\/p>\n<p>A state Department of Agriculture official testified in favor of the resolution, calling it a \u201cfantastic idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Relatedly, the governor of New York recently signed a bill aimed at expanding the state\u2019s hemp market by promoting collaborative partnerships to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/new-york-governor-signs-bill-encouraging-businesses-to-use-hemp-for-construction-packaging-and-other-purposes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">identify more opportunities to utilize the crop<\/a> and its derivatives for packaging, construction and other purposes.<\/p>\n<p>In Pennsylvania, officials announced late last year that they will be providing up to $200,000 in matched funding for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/pennsylvania-launches-200000-grant-program-to-support-hemp-marketing-and-consumer-awareness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">marketing projects to promote the state\u2019s hemp market<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Army soldiers aren\u2019t allowed to use hemp-derived CBD even if its federally legal\u2014but the military branch solicited information last year about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/u-s-army-wants-to-make-sniper-uniforms-out-of-hemp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">using hemp yarn in uniforms to help camouflage snipers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded funds to researchers last year to develop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/feds-fund-development-of-hemp-based-3d-printed-materials-to-build-affordable-housing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3D-printed hempcrete to be used in building affordable housing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>DOE is also sponsoring\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/feds-fund-research-into-hemp-fiber-insulation-as-environmentally-friendly-alternative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a project to develop hemp fiber insulation<\/a> that\u2019s designed to be better for the environment and public health than conventional preparations are, the agency announced in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also announced in 2021 that it was awarding a Washington State-based company a $100,000 grant to support the development of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/epa-awards-100k-grant-to-support-production-of-hemp-based-bricks-for-sustainable-construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sustainable bricks made from industrial hemp<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All of these are examples of how governments across the country have come to embrace hemp and its various uses since the crop was federally legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill.<\/p>\n<p>Back in North Dakota, meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/north-dakota-voters-reject-marijuana-legalization-ballot-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voters rejected a ballot initiative to legalize marijuana<\/a> during the November election.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative was similar to a bill that was introduced in the legislature in 2021. The proposal from Rep.
