{"id":60535,"date":"2023-01-10T07:44:03","date_gmt":"2023-01-10T15:44:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2023\/01\/10\/connecticuts-first-adult-use-marijuana-shops-are-officially-open\/"},"modified":"2023-01-10T17:45:58","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T01:45:58","slug":"connecticuts-first-adult-use-marijuana-shops-are-officially-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2023\/01\/10\/connecticuts-first-adult-use-marijuana-shops-are-officially-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Connecticut\u2019s First Adult-Use Marijuana Shops Are Officially Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>Connecticut\u2019s first adult-use marijuana sales launched on Tuesday\u2014the latest state in the region where recreational shops have started opening their doors in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>This development comes about a month after the state Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) notified existing medical cannabis dispensaries that obtained a hybrid license that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/connecticuts-first-adult-use-marijuana-sales-will-start-next-month-officials-announce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they\u2019d soon be able to start selling<\/a> to the adult-use market.<\/p>\n<p>DCP\u2019s Social Equity Council voted last month to approve hybrid licenses for all of the state\u2019s current medical cannabis producers to supply both markets. Six existing marijuana companies, with a total of nine locations, met the requirements to obtain hybrid licenses that will allow them to serve adult consumers\u2014though a handful of them are not ready to begin recreational sales as of Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Adults are able to buy up to one-fourth of an ounce of cannabis flower or its equivalent per transaction. Medical marijuana patients are able to buy up to five ounces per month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday marks a turning point in the injustices caused by the war on drugs, most notably now that there is a legal alternative to the dangerous, unregulated, underground market for cannabis sales,\u201d Gov. Ned Lamont (D), who signed legalization legislation into law, <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/Office-of-the-Governor\/News\/Press-Releases\/2023\/01-2023\/Governor-Lamont-Announces-Start-of-Adult-Use-Cannabis-Sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether with our partners in the legislature and our team of professionals at the Department of Consumer Protection, we\u2019ve carefully crafted a securely regulated market that prioritizes public health, public safety, social justice, and equity,\u201d he said. \u201cI look forward to continuing our efforts to ensure that this industry remains inclusive and safe as it develops.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Adult-use cannabis sales started today at licensed retailers. We&#8217;re reminding the public to use these products responsibly, including safe storage and disposal.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/95OJvoY5yx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">https:\/\/t.co\/95OJvoY5yx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (@CTDCP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CTDCP\/status\/1612839253733425156?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">January 10, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>Ahead of the official launch, DCP officials issued an advisory to medical cannabis patients on Friday, encouraging them to stock up in order to \u201cavoid long lines and traffic that may develop around hybrid retailers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we hope there will be no disruption or inconvenience to patients, it is always best to be prepared,\u201d DCP Commissioner Michelle Seagull <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/DCP\/News-Releases-from-the-Department-of-Consumer-Protection\/2023-News-Releases\/MMP-Advisory-Purchase-Medical-Marijuana-Products-in-Advance-of-Adult-Use-Market-Opening\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cPatients who can make purchases ahead of time, or have their medicine delivered, are advised to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Lamont announced earlier this month that the state has cleared nearly 43,000 records for marijuana-related convictions. The legalization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/connecticut-governor-signs-marijuana-legalization-into-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legislation that he signed into law in 2021<\/a> empowered the state government\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/thousands-of-connecticut-marijuana-possession-records-will-be-wiped-away-at-beginning-of-2023-connecticut-governor-announces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to facilitate mass cannabis conviction relief<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/connecticut-launches-marijuana-record-sealing-web-portal-one-day-before-adult-use-sales-launch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state also launched a web portal on Monday<\/a> that provides residents with information about the status of their cannabis records and also guides those with older eligible convictions that weren\u2019t automatically erased through the process of petitioning the courts for relief.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz (D) said that an \u201cold conviction for a low-level cannabis possession shouldn\u2019t hold someone back from pursuing their career, housing, professional, and educational aspirations,\u201d adding that \u201cGovernor Lamont and I welcome this change to help people regain their freedom and the opportunity to pursue the careers and jobs they rightfully deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here are the cannabis dispensaries that are licensed to sell to adults over the age of 21 as of Tuesday:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Affinity Health and Wellness (New Haven)<\/li>\n<li>The Botanist \u2013 Danbury (Danbury)<\/li>\n<li>The Botanist \u2013 Montville (Montville)<\/li>\n<li>Fine Fettle Dispensary \u2013 Newington (Newington)<\/li>\n<li>Fine Fettle Dispensary \u2013 Stamford (Stamford)<\/li>\n<li>Fine Fettle Dispensary \u2013 Willimantic (Willimantic)<\/li>\n<li>RISE Branford (formerly Bluepoint Wellness of Connecticut) (Branford)<\/li>\n<li>Still River Wellness (Torrington)<\/li>\n<li>Zen Leaf Meriden (formerly Willow Brook Wellness) (Meriden)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It remains to be seen if the governor will participate in the legal marketplace, at least for now.<\/p>\n<p>Before signing the bill to create a regulated cannabis industry, Lamont was asked in 2021 if he\u2019d partake himself when marijuana was officially legal\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/connecticut-governor-says-hes-open-to-smoking-marijuana-after-he-signs-legalization-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and he didn\u2019t rule it out<\/a>, saying \u201cnot right now, but we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the governor also signed a large-scale budget bill last year that includes provisions to set the state up to provide certain patients with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/connecticut-governor-signs-bill-creating-psychedelic-treatment-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">access to psychedelic-assisted treatment<\/a>\u00a0using substances like MDMA and psilocybin.<\/p>\n<p>A Connecticut representative filed a bill for the new session to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/lawmakers-are-already-pursuing-psychedelics-legislation-in-nearly-a-dozen-states-for-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legalize \u201cthe use of psilocybin for medicinal and therapeutic purposes<\/a>, including, but not limited to, the provision of physical, mental or behavioral health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to marijuana, the State Police and other officials are <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/DOT\/CTDOT-Press-Releases\/2023\/Driving-High-Equals-DUI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning<\/a> people to avoid impaired driving as legal sales launch.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You\u2019ve heard the news.
