\n<\/span>The <\/span>Drug Enforcement Administration<\/span><\/a> is moving ahead with a plan to legalize a cocaine derivative\u2014while pushing back against critics who say that marijuana should be similarly descheduled.<\/span>

\n<\/span>The <\/span>Treasury Department\u2019s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network<\/span><\/a> released new marijuana banking data\u2014including state-by-state numbers for the first time.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Congressional negotiations on the so-called \u201cSAFE Plus\u201d<\/span><\/a> package of marijuana banking and expungement reforms are intensifying as the clock ticks down on the lame duck session\u2014but some advocates aren\u2019t ready to sign off until they see the actual provisions.<\/span>

\n<\/span>A new Pew Research Center poll found that <\/span>just one out of ten Americans<\/span><\/a> supports keeping marijuana totally illegal. There is broad supermajority support for legalizing medical cannabis across all demographics, and recreational legalization is backed by a majority of Democrats and plurality of Republicans.<\/span>

\n<\/span>The <\/span>U.S. Department of Agriculture<\/span><\/a> is <\/span>including<\/span><\/a> questions about hemp cultivation in its Census of Agriculture for the first time.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA)<\/span><\/a> tweeted, \u201cPardoning federal marijuana convictions is a great first step. Now we must: \"✅\"Legalize marijuana at the federal level \"✅\"Pardon all simple marijuana-possession offenses, regardless of immigration status \"✅\"Reopen immigration cases of those deported for marijuana-related offenses\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH)<\/span><\/a> tweeted, \u201cI was honored to kick off the inaugural National Indigenous Cannabis Policy & Advocacy Summit last week. I\u2019m proud to be a champion for Indian Country and will continue working to fulfill the promises we\u2019ve made to Tribes and protect their sovereignty.\u201d<\/span>

\n<\/span>Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR)<\/span><\/a> tweeted, \u201cI applaud Governor Brown\u2019s decision to pardon these offenses of simple marijuana possession. Oregon legalized cannabis in 2016, but these past convictions have made it difficult for people\u2014particularly those from BIPOC communities\u2014to live freely.\u201d<\/span>

\n<\/span>The House bill to <\/span>create a federal commission to study legal marijuana regulations<\/span><\/a> got one new cosponsor for a total of five.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Michigan<\/span><\/a> Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) announced a new process for social equity program participants whose prequalification status has expired to reapply without having to pay additional application fees.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Washington State\u2019s<\/span><\/a> treasurer touted a newspaper editorial on the need to pass marijuana banking legislation.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>South Dakota<\/span><\/a> activists plan to put marijuana legalization on the ballot again in 2024.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Kentucky\u2019s<\/span><\/a> Senate president discussed his skepticism about medical cannabis.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Gadsden, Alabama\u2019s<\/span><\/a> mayor appointed a task force to assist people applying for medical cannabis business licenses.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Colombia\u2019s<\/span><\/a> justice minister spoke about the \u201ctotal failure of the war on drugs.\u201d Separately, the <\/span>interior minister<\/span><\/a> called the advancement of marijuana legalization legislation a \u201chistoric advance,\u201d saying the reform, if enacted \u201cwill be a very important source of income for the country\u201d and that the nation is <\/span>currently<\/span><\/a> \u201clagging behind\u201d others that have legalized.<\/span>
