The Biden Justice Department had urged the justices not to hear the matter.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/state-marijuana-protections-not-included-in-justice-department-funding-bill-despite-lawmakers-pleas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">House Appropriations Committee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> leaders released a Justice Department funding bill that doesn\u2019t include broad state marijuana protections that advocates wanted, leaving them to pursue an amendment later to attach the provisions. The legislation as introduced does contain more limited medical cannabis and hemp measures, however.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/louisiana-governor-signs-ten-cannabis-bills-including-significant-medical-marijuana-expansions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> signed ten new cannabis bills into law\u2014including some measures to significantly expand the state\u2019s medical marijuana program. Another blocks police from searching people\u2019s homes over the smell of cannabis.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/florida-official-awaits-justice-departments-response-to-medical-marijuana-patients-gun-rights-lawsuit-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, who is running as a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, spoke to Marijuana Moment ahead of the Justice Department\u2019s impending response to her lawsuit on medical cannabis patients\u2019 gun rights this week. She also drew a contrast with incumbent Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), whom she hopes to unseat later this year.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/new-texas-republican-party-platform-opposes-marijuana-legalization-but-backs-federal-cannabis-rescheduling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Texas Republican Party delegates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> adopted a somewhat contradictory set of drug policy platform planks at their convention, including measures opposing marijuana legalization, supporting federal cannabis rescheduling, calling for reduced hemp regulations and opposing harm reduction policies.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>\/ FEDERAL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/crsreports.congress.gov\/product\/pdf\/R\/R47156\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Congressional Research Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> included an analysis of marijuana restrictions in an overview of Washington, D.C. budget legislation.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepNancyMace\/status\/1539336447349690369\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rep. Instead of focusing public safety resources on low-level drug offenses, we must address the root cause of violence.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>\/ STATES<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?521085-2\/governor-jb-pritzker-speaks-hampshire-democratic-convention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Illinois<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) touted his move to legalize cannabis in a speech at the\u00a0 New Hampshire Democratic Convention.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MariManoogian\/status\/1539343799520047104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kentucky<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Gov. and healthcare\u2014generates an annual turnover of around one billion Swiss Francs, according to a new study.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>\/ SCIENCE &amp; HEALTH<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Study concluded that \u201ccannabis terpenes, alone or combined with cannabinoids and flavonoids, produced <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cdnsciencepub.com\/doi\/10.1139\/cjpp-2021-0792\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">anti-cancer effects<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in chemotherapy-resistant breast cancer cell lines.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A study of mice found that while \u201clong term artisanal CBD use does not prevent or lessen seizure severity, CBD is a promising adjunctive partner for its ability to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0306452222003049\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">depress epileptogenic processes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d and that results \u201cindicate that artisanal CBD is beneficial as it both decreases inflammation in the [central nervous system] and reduces the number of ectopic neurons deposited in the hippocampal area post seizure.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>\/ ADVOCACY, OPINION &amp; ANALYSIS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Polls of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/leger360.com\/surveys\/legers-north-american-tracker-june-15-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">American and Canadian
