Among its key takeaways is that providing adults with access to licensed marijuana retailers is having the desired impact of undermining the illicit market.<\/p>\n<p>With respect to past-month cannabis consumers, 64 percent of respondents said they obtained marijuana products from licensed retailers. OCP said that the \u201ccurrent illicit market has diminished more than expected,\u201d compared to other state cannabis programs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_60929\" style=\"width: 417px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60929\" class=\" wp-image-60929\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-13-at-11.34.10-AM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"407\" height=\"399\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-60929\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via OCP.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe found an estimated overall upshift in the regulated market between January of 2021 and November\/December of 2021 of approximately 12 percent,\u201d the report, conducted by Advocates for Human Potential for the state, says. \u201cInterestingly, we found that those who prioritize their source of cannabis highly and those who are younger are more likely to use adult-use stores for their cannabis and to have shifted to adult-use stores from other sources since January of 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Legal retail marijuana shops <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/launch-of-maines-legal-marijuana-sales-inspires-rambling-police-department-facebook-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched in Maine in October 2020<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/maine-marijuana-sales-broke-another-record-in-august-exceeding-10-million-for-first-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state has since reported significant sales<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe findings in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/dafs\/ocp\/resources\/surveys-reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> point to policies and practices that promote and preserve public health and safety, while allowing legal businesses to compete,\u201d OCP Director Erik Gundersen <a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/maine\/report-show-au-success-diminished-illicit-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a press release. \u201cThe findings of this report serve as an excellent baseline for us to measure the continued evolution of our programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe are pleased to release this report that highlights the successful launch of Maine\u2019s adult use market,\u201d said OCP&#8217;s Erik Gundersen. \u201cThe findings in this report point to policies &amp; practices that promote public health and safety, while allowing legal businesses to compete.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ENE1pYQgIK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">https:\/\/t.co\/ENE1pYQgIK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (@MaineOCP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaineOCP\/status\/1536406191152193538?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">June 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>\u201cOCP strives to be a model of good governance for the cannabis industry,\u201d he said. \u201cIn addition to continuing research and producing reports like these, OCP will be conducting broader stakeholder outreach to empower industry and community participation in this goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_60930\" style=\"width: 583px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60930\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-60930\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-13-at-11.35.06-AM-1024x562-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-60930\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via OCP.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A geographical analysis of survey responses based on zip codes further found that people who lived closer to a cannabis shop were more likely to seek out marijuana from the regulated market, rather than run the risks associated with illicit transactions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_60931\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60931\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-60931\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Screen-Shot-2022-06-13-at-11.50.00-AM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"543\" height=\"494\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-60931\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via OCP.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Additionally, the report says that people who purchased their marijuana from licensed stores were no more likely to have a cannabis use disorder or drive while impaired.
