The governor of Connecticut is jamming to a new country song about all the good things about his state, including the fact that it\u2019s \u201ccool to smoke some pot\u201d since he signed an adult-use legalization bill into law.<\/p>\n
Gov. Ned Lamont (D) shared a clip of the song, \u201cFirst Ever Connecticut Country Song\u201d by Rusty Gear, that\u2019s basically a jingle for the Constitution State. But the cannabis mention drew the ire of the governor\u2019s Republican opponent in the upcoming November election, Bob Stefanowski.<\/p>\n
\u201cConnecticut has everything!\u201d Lamont said on Twitter, rattling off a list that includes beaches, mountains, breweries and country music (but not taking note of the song\u2019s prominent marijuana mention, though it was included in the short song clip excerpted in his tweet). \u201cYes, you read that right. We have country music, like this toe-tapping track about our great state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nWe can gamble on the internet, and it\u2019s cool to smoke some pot.
\nSo y\u2019all come visit my state and mind your etiquette.
\nI guarantee you\u2019ll be welcome in Connecticut.\u201d<\/p>\nThe song also takes note of one other state\u2019s cannabis law, saying that \u201cgetting high in Colorado is the Rocky Mountain way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lamont, who has been championing cannabis reform throughout his tenure as governor, signed legalization into law<\/a> about this time last year. Before signing the bill, he was asked if he\u2019d partake himself when it was legal\u2014and he didn\u2019t rule it out<\/a>, saying \u201cnot right now, but we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n
But while the governor has made clear that he\u2019s willing to lean into cannabis culture, his GOP opponent in this election thinks the tacit endorsement of smoking marijuana shows why he should replace Lamont.<\/p>\n

To be clear, the song Lamont shared doesn\u2019t encourage underage cannabis use. It just acknowledges that the state made recreational use legal for adults.<\/p>\n
\nAlso when he was running for governor in 2018, Stefanowski didn\u2019t seem especially closed-off to the idea of reforming, saying<\/a> that \u201cat some point we should look at legalizing marijuana\u2026but we\u2019ve got so many fundamental problems in this state\u201d to deal with first.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Lamont also signed a large-scale budget bill last month that includes provisions to set the state up to provide certain patients with access to psychedelic-assisted treatment<\/a> using substances like MDMA and psilocybin.<\/p>\n
