{"id":54502,"date":"2022-04-27T04:23:40","date_gmt":"2022-04-27T12:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2022\/04\/27\/georgia-voters-will-decide-on-marijuana-ballot-question-next-month\/"},"modified":"2022-04-27T19:46:45","modified_gmt":"2022-04-28T03:46:45","slug":"georgia-voters-will-decide-on-marijuana-ballot-question-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2022\/04\/27\/georgia-voters-will-decide-on-marijuana-ballot-question-next-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgia Voters Will Decide On Marijuana Ballot Question Next Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/MM_Bill_Tracker_V5_blank-62.jpg\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1500\"> <\/p>\n<p>When Georgia voters head to the polls for the primary election next month, they will get a chance to decide on a marijuana legalization question.<\/p>\n<p>The state Democratic party leadership placed nine non-binding advisory questions on the ballot this year, with the hope of gaining perspective on what issues voters care about most to inform legislative policy priorities.<\/p>\n<p>One of those questions asks:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">\u201cShould marijuana be legalized, taxed and regulated in the same manner as alcohol for adults 21 years of age or older, with proceeds going towards education, infrastructure and health care programs?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the results of the vote on May 24 won\u2019t immediately change state law, a strong showing in favor of legalization will demonstrate to elected officials that there is support for the reform, at least among those who vote in the Democratic primary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur ballot advisory questions are one of many ways we engage with Democratic voters ahead of the midterm elections,\u201d Scott Hogan, executive director of the Democratic Party of Georgia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/news\/democrats-include-nine-questions-on-upcoming-primary-ballot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> FOX 5 Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia has open primaries, meaning that any voter can choose to fill out the Democratic ballot on Election Day regardless of their party affiliation.<\/p>\n<p>Other <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Georgia_Political_Party_Advisory_Questions_(May_2022)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questions<\/a> on the Democratic ballot ask about student loan forgiveness, paid parental leave, free preschool, healthcare and renewable energy. More than 80 percent responded that they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/south-carolina-voters-approve-medical-marijuana-question-on-democratic-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">support enacting a policy change<\/a> to let patients access marijuana.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the ballot process, Minnesota House lawmakers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/minnesota-lawmakers-poll-shows-growing-support-for-marijuana-legalization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surveyed residents about adult-use legalization<\/a> as part of the State Fair Poll. Most recently in 2021, 58 percent of respondents said they back the reform.
