That hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 20.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn one of the more bold acts of cynicism I\u2019ve seen in awhile, WI Republicans have scheduled a hearing for their terrible, discriminatory medical cannabis bill\u2014for 4\/20 of all days,\u201d Sen. Chris Larson, D-Milwaukee, said on Twitter on Monday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The bill, which has no chance of passing this year, does the following:<\/p>\n<p>-Excludes victims of the drug war from being employed in the cannabis industry<br \/>-Permits employment discrimination against legal users<br \/>-Allows people fired for using medical cannabis to be denied unemployment<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Chris Larson (@SenChrisLarson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenChrisLarson\/status\/1513632468167016455?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 11, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>420 has been part of marijuana lore for years.<\/p>\n<p>Larson is not alone in failing to find any humor in the scheduled hearing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublicans are all talk and no action when it comes to legalization efforts in Wisconsin,\u201d Sen. Melissa Agard, D-Madison, said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Agard is perhaps one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/wisconsin-lawmakers-unveil-new-marijuana-legalization-bill-at-a-cannabis-shop-in-illinois\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biggest supporters of legal marijuana in the state legislature<\/a>. She\u2019s been pushing for full legalization for years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the second straight session, legislative Republicans have introduced a late session, politically motivated bill to try and fool the people of Wisconsin into thinking they are genuine about legalization,\u201d Agard said. \u201cHaving a public hearing after session has already been gaveled-out is a cynical political ploy that gives people false hope about the prospects of this legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The people of Wisconsin are ready for cannabis reform. They are not expected to take any substantial action until after November\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sen. Mary Felzkowski, R-Tomahawk, who will lead the hearing said what matters is that Wisconsin is taking its first step toward joining 37 other states in allowing sick people to use marijuana as medicine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you think the bill goes too far, or not far enough, what\u2019s important is that we all come together to have an open, honest and respectful discussion about moving this idea forward,\u201d Felzkowski said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>There are 18 states, plus Guam and the District of Columbia that have legalized recreational marijuana.
