The governors of Connecticut, New Mexico and New Jersey said that was reason to celebrate as they looked back on the last day of the year on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont (D) specifically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/new-connecticut-marijuana-equity-council-approves-map-of-drug-war-impacted-areas-at-first-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">highlighted the work of a social equity council<\/a> as the state\u2019s recreational market takes off. He said the body\u2019s \u201cprimary function is to ensure equitable access to CT\u2019s budding adult-use cannabis industry and to offset some of the damage caused by the War on Drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Social Equity Council\u2019s primary function is to ensure equitable access to CT\u2019s budding adult-use cannabis industry and to offset some of the damage caused by the War on Drugs. That\u2019s why I made it a priority to kickoff the council\u2019s first ever meeting in August. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mcQN7CXfLC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/mcQN7CXfLC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Ned Lamont (@GovNedLamont) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovNedLamont\/status\/1477025640537026560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">December 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I made it a priority to kickoff the council\u2019s first ever meeting in August,\u201d Lamont tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>At that meeting, the 15-person group approved a list of geographic areas disproportionately impacted by the drug war, which will be used to determine eligibility for social equity business licenses.<\/p>\n<p>In New Mexico, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) again emphasized the \u201climitless\u201d economic potential of the state\u2019s new cannabis market that is being created after she signed legalization into law this year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The potential for New Mexico&#8217;s economy is limitless. By legalizing cannabis, we are helping to create over 11,000 jobs in our state. We&#8217;re building an economy that works for all New Mexicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Michelle Lujan Grisham (@Michelle4NM) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Michelle4NM\/status\/1476975830152613893?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">December 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>\u201cBy legalizing cannabis, we are helping to create over 11,000 jobs in our state,\u201d she wrote. \u201cWe\u2019re building an economy that works for all New Mexicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In August, the state began accepting applications for businesses interested in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/new-mexico-is-officially-accepting-recreational-marijuana-producer-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">becoming licensed marijuana producers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Adults 21 and older are currently able to possess up to two ounces of cannabis and grow up to six mature plants for personal use\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/new-mexico-marijuana-legalization-law-officially-takes-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">under a law that was enacted earlier this year<\/a>. Commercial sales are expected to launch in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) also included his state\u2019s move to enact legalization following a voter-approved referendum in a list of 2021 accomplishments.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><img src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/1f4c8.png\" alt=\"&#x1F4C8;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/>Signed historic economic recovery legislation\u2070<img src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/1f4b0.png\" alt=\"&#x1F4B0;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/>Made the first full pension payment in 25 years<br \/><img src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/1f45b.png\" alt=\"&#x1F45B;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/>Expanded the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit to 80,000 more families<br \/><img src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/1f331.png\" alt=\"&#x1F331;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/>Legalized adult-use cannabis<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Phil Murphy (@GovMurphy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovMurphy\/status\/1476955066124980235?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">December 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>The state is still in the process of implementing legalization following voter approval of the reform last November, but home cultivation is not currently permitted under the conforming legislation that Murphy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/new-jersey-lawmakers-send-marijuana-compromise-bill-to-governors-desk-setting-stage-for-legal-sales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed earlier this year<\/a>.
