{"id":50749,"date":"2021-10-26T12:14:16","date_gmt":"2021-10-26T20:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2021\/10\/26\/former-arkansas-lawmaker-launches-campaign-to-put-marijuana-legalization-on-the-2022-ballot\/"},"modified":"2021-10-26T13:45:55","modified_gmt":"2021-10-26T21:45:55","slug":"former-arkansas-lawmaker-launches-campaign-to-put-marijuana-legalization-on-the-2022-ballot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2021\/10\/26\/former-arkansas-lawmaker-launches-campaign-to-put-marijuana-legalization-on-the-2022-ballot\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Arkansas Lawmaker Launches Campaign To Put Marijuana Legalization On The 2022 Ballot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-26-at-4.07.38-PM-1.png\" width=\"1320\" height=\"780\"> <\/p>\n<p>A former Arkansas lawmaker is now heading up a campaign to put marijuana legalization on the state\u2019s 2022 ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Eddie Armstrong, a Democrat who previously served as minority leader in the state House of Representatives before leaving office in 2019, is chairing the newly formed advocacy group Responsible Growth Arkansas.<\/p>\n<p>His plan is to place a reform initiative on next year\u2019s ballot that would \u201callow the regulated sale of adult-use cannabis in the state,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkansasonline.com\/news\/2021\/oct\/26\/ex-lawmaker-heads-newest-pot-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> provided to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.<\/p>\n<p>The measure\u2019s text has yet to be filed with the secretary of state\u2019s office, but Armstrong told Marijuana Moment that \u201cmore specific information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to visiting more as things come fully online,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A separate group of activists with Arkansas True Grass <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/arkansas-marijuana-activists-push-for-legalization-ballot-initiative-in-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is already in the signature gathering process<\/a> for a 2022 ballot initiative that would create a system of regulated sales for adults 21 and older, allowing them to purchase up to four ounces of cannabis and grow up to 12 plants for personal use.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators with the state Agriculture Department and Alcoholic Beverage Control Division would be responsible for overseeing the program and issuing marijuana business licenses under that group\u2019s proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Armstrong is also the founder of the Illinois-based Cannabis Capital Corp. The campaign he\u2019s leading filed its initial registration papers with the Arkansas Ethics Commission last week, a first step in toward potentially putting legalization before voters next year.<\/p>\n<p>True Grass and a separate groups of activists attempted to place marijuana legalization initiatives on the 2020 ballot, but both campaigns were derailed by the coronavirus pandemic and failed to collect enough signatures by the deadline.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s despite\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/federal-judge-gives-arkansas-marijuana-legalization-activists-a-boost-with-signature-gathering-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a federal judge\u2019s ruling in May 2020<\/a>\u00a0that the secretary of state needed accept signatures that were not collected in-person or notarized due to the excess burdens that arose during the health crisis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014<br \/>\nAre you looking for ways to keep people coming back to your business\u2019s website? While their resolution advanced through a key committee, the full Senate blocked it. However, activists with the group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/north-dakota-activists-submit-2022-marijuana-legalization-ballot-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Dakota Cannabis Caucus are collecting signatures<\/a>\u00a0to qualify a constitutional amendment to legalize cannabis for the 2022 ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Wyoming\u2019s attorney general recently issued ballot summaries for proposed initiatives to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/wyoming-attorney-general-issues-ballot-summaries-for-marijuana-initiatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legalize medical marijuana and decriminalize cannabis possession<\/a>, freeing up activists to collect signatures to qualify for the 2022 ballot.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s not just marijuana measures that reform activists are seeking to qualify for state ballots next year. A California campaign was recently cleared to begin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/california-activists-cleared-to-collect-signatures-for-psilocybin-legalization-ballot-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collecting signatures for an initiative to legalize psilocybin<\/a>.
