Massachusetts marijuana sales have topped $2 billion since the state\u2019s adult-use market launched in late 2018, the Cannabis Control Commission reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Gross sales from the state\u2019s 165 cannabis retailers and three delivery services reached $2,009,007,478 as of August 31. That\u2019s 55 percent more cannabis earnings for state coffers than was generated in the prior fiscal year.<\/p>\n A recent scientific analysis of sales data in Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and Washington State found that marijuana purchases \u201chave\u00a0increased more during the COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>\u00a0than in the previous two years.\u201d<\/p>\n In July alone, at least\u00a0three states saw record-breaking sales<\/a>\u00a0for recreational cannabis. The same goes for Missouri\u2019s medical marijuana program.<\/p>\n Illinois saw\u00a0nearly $128 million in recreational cannabis purchases<\/a> in July\u2014more than double the total monthly sales from a year ago. July marks the fifth consecutive month that sales in Illinois\u2019s adult-use market have topped $100 million. If the trend continues, the state is on track to see more than $1 billion in adult-use marijuana sales<\/a>\u00a0in 2021.<\/p>\n Adult-use marijuana sales in Maine reached $9.4 million in July\u2014a 45 percent increase from the prior month\u2019s record.<\/p>\n Michigan\u00a0marijuana sales broke another record in July<\/a> with more than $171 million in cannabis transactions, according to data from the state\u2019s regulatory body.
