\n<\/span>The <\/span>House Appropriations Committee<\/span><\/a> approved a report that calls on federal agencies to reconsider policies on \u201chiring and firing of individuals who use marijuana in states where that individual\u2019s private use of marijuana is not prohibited under the law of the state.\u201d The attached spending bill, which was also approved, contains additional provisions protecting banks that work with state-legal cannabis businesses and letting Washington, D.C. legalize marijuana sales.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Rhode Island lawmakers<\/a> approved a bill to legalize safe consumption sites for illegal drugs. One more vote in the Senate, which passed an earlier version, is needed to send it to Gov. Dan McKee (D). Separately, a House panel held a hearing on legislation to legalize marijuana.<\/span><\/p>\n

New Mexico\u2019s<\/span><\/a> law legalizing possession and home cultivation of marijuana officially took effect. Later this week, new cannabis policies in Connecticut, South Dakota and Virginia come online as well.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Mexican President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador<\/span><\/a> is floating the idea of putting a marijuana legalization referendum on the ballot following a ruling from the nation\u2019s Supreme Court that struck down cannabis criminalization.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The <\/span>California Assembly Public Safety Committee<\/span><\/a> approved a Senate-passed bill to legalize possession of psychedelics like psilocybin, LSD and MDMA. It was amended to remove ketamine, however.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>A <\/span>Department of Justice brief on behalf of the Drug Enforcement Administration<\/span><\/a> argues that allowing terminally ill cancer patients to access psilocybin therapy could boost the illegal drug market.<\/span><\/p>\n
