The governor and police also lobbied against it.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/mexicos-supreme-court-strikes-down-marijuana-prohibition-after-lawmakers-fail-to-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mexico\u2019s Supreme Court<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> struck down the country\u2019s prohibition of marijuana after lawmakers failed to enact a legalization bill by the latest in a series of repeatedly extended deadlines.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/mississippi-lawmakers-get-medical-marijuana-advice-from-oklahoma-and-utah-as-they-craft-new-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mississippi Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> held a hearing at which lawmakers got medical cannabis advice from counterparts in Oklahoma and Utah as they work toward an expected August special session to replace the voter-approved measure that was overturned by the state Supreme Court.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/california-senator-rallies-support-for-bill-to-legalize-psychedelics-possession-ahead-of-key-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">California senator<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> held a rally with military veterans, medical professionals and law enforcement to build support for his bill to legalize possession of psychedelics ahead of its first Assembly hearing on Tuesday. It has already passed the full Senate.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>\/ FEDERAL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indianaffairs.gov\/sites\/bia.gov\/files\/NABDI_FAQs_April%208%202021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bureau of Indian Affairs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> clarified that hemp projects are eligible for Native American Business Development Institute grants, but marijuana projects are not.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ma\/pr\/associate-former-fall-river-mayor-sentenced-extorting-marijuana-vendors-and-making-false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">federal judge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> sentenced an associate and co-conspirator of a former Fall River, Massachusetts mayor who was recently convicted of extorting marijuana businesses to probation and home confinement.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westword.com\/marijuana\/hickenlooper-continues-marijuana-conversation-senate-12016813\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> said he is \u201coptimistic\u201d that a federal marijuana legalization bill can pass this year.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeffMerkley\/status\/1409162786085560326\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> tweeted, \u201cThere has been a significant increase in robberies of cannabis businesses. Workers are being put at risk and local businesses are losing money. Cannabis businesses need safe banking NOW.
