While the group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/multi-state-marijuana-regulators-association-expands-and-sets-policy-priorities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">doesn\u2019t take a position on legalization<\/a>, it\u2019s comprised of members whose states have ended prohibition and would be affected by any federal marijuana actions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What does federal cannabis legalization mean for states like Colorado? Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Dave Joyce (R-OH), both co-chairs of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, spoke with the state regulators, in addition to staffers from other congressional offices. Representatives from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Food and Drug Administration and Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau were also present.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Brisbo, executive director of the Michigan\u2019s Marijuana Regulatory Agency, told Marijuana Moment that the federal officials were \u201cvery receptive\u201d during the dialogue and recognized the state regulators as \u201cwilling to be good partners in their ongoing conversations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the primary thing we wanted to get across is, as federal policymakers are engaged in conversations and thoughtfully considering how to approach federal policy reform, that it\u2019s critical that state regulators have a seat at the table to share our perspective,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Earlier this week, the members of CANNRA (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CannRegulators?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@CannRegulators<\/a>) held our first official business meeting. Today we\u2019ll meet with federal and elected officials to discuss implications federal cannabis legalization might have on state regulation. Product labeling, testing and promoting social and economic equity are some of those issues that were discussed.<\/p>\n<p>The conversation also touched on legislation to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/analysis-how-this-weeks-marijuana-banking-vote-changed-from-earlier-2019-house-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protect banks that service state-legal marijuana businesses<\/a> from being penalized by federal regulators. Brisbo said that while CANNRA isn\u2019t taking a position on legalization legislation that\u2019s moving through Congress, that\u2019s one \u201ccritical\u201d issue that could be addressed in the short term.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CCB Exec. Cory Booker (D-NJ) are in the process of drafting their own legalization bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/schumer-says-federal-marijuana-legalization-bill-will-hit-senate-floor-soon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which is expected to be released shortly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) has already refiled his marijuana legalization bill, the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act.
