{"id":48006,"date":"2021-06-01T07:55:12","date_gmt":"2021-06-01T15:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2021\/06\/01\/nevada-bill-to-legalize-marijuana-consumption-lounges-heads-to-governors-desk\/"},"modified":"2021-06-01T13:45:41","modified_gmt":"2021-06-01T21:45:41","slug":"nevada-bill-to-legalize-marijuana-consumption-lounges-heads-to-governors-desk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2021\/06\/01\/nevada-bill-to-legalize-marijuana-consumption-lounges-heads-to-governors-desk\/","title":{"rendered":"Nevada Bill To Legalize Marijuana Consumption Lounges Heads To Governor\u2019s Desk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/MM_Bill_Tracker_V5_blank-1.jpg\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1500\"> <\/p>\n<p>The Nevada legislature has sent a bill to legalize marijuana consumption lounges to the governor\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/california-and-nevada-lawmakers-advance-marijuana-social-consumption-lounge-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clearing the Assembly last week<\/a>, the legislation advanced through the Senate in a 17-3 vote on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by Assemblyman Steve Yeager (D), the bill would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-lawmakers-approve-marijuana-bill-to-allow-on-site-consumption-lounges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">create two new licensing categories for cannabis businesses<\/a>\u00a0in the state. One would be for \u201cretail cannabis consumption lounges\u201d and the other would be an \u201cindependent cannabis consumption lounge.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">AB341, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveYeagerNV?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@SteveYeagerNV<\/a> bill to allow state Cannabis Compliance Board to license and regulate cannabis consumption lounges, clears the Senate in the final hours of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NVleg?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">#NVleg<\/a> session. <\/p>\n<p>17-3 vote, with 1 GOP and 2 Dems voting against it. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iIzAxLgdZc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/iIzAxLgdZc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Colton Lochhead (@ColtonLochhead) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ColtonLochhead\/status\/1399543712405889029?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">June 1, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>Existing retailers could apply for the former license and sell products that could be consumed on-site by adults 21 and older.<\/p>\n<p>Independent lounges could enter into a contract with an existing retailer to purchase and prepare ready-to-consume marijuana products for resale.<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s Cannabis Compliance Board would also be responsible for creating regulations for on-site facilities and collecting fees for license applicants. Steve Sisolak (D) is a strong supporter of the state\u2019s cannabis industry and is expected to sign the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled that after the long wait, Nevada will finally be home to consumption lounges,\u201d Larry Scheffler Co-CEO of Planet 13, a vertically integrated marijuana company in the state, said. \u201cWe\u2019ve long believed that tourists needed a safe, legal and enjoyable place to consume cannabis and have been planning for a consumption lounge and club at the SuperStore since the bill was originally proposed two years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The legislature also recently sent bills to the governor that would reduce marijuana penalties for minors, rescind per se driving thresholds for THC and allow curbside pickup at dispensaries.<\/p>\n<p>Adding the new social use license types statewide and giving consumers this option\u2014especially in the tourist-centric state\u2014could boost marijuana and other tax revenues. Sisolak has had a particular interest in ensuring that those tax dollars support public education, which he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-governor-pledges-marijuana-tax-dollars-for-schools-in-state-of-state-address\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">talked about during a State of the State address<\/a>\u00a0in January.<\/p>\n<p>The governor has also committed to promoting equity and justice in the state\u2019s marijuana law. Last year, for example, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-pardons-more-than-15000-people-with-marijuana-convictions-under-governors-resolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pardoned more than 15,000 people<\/a>\u00a0who were convicted for low-level cannabis possession.<\/p>\n<p>That action was made possible under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nevada-governor-introduces-measure-to-pardon-tens-of-thousands-with-marijuana-convictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a resolution the governor introduced<\/a>\u00a0that was unanimously approved by the state\u2019s Board of Pardons Commissioners.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, the Las Vegas City Council in 2019 approved an ordinance allowing for social consumption sites within city limits.<\/p>\n<p>That year, Alaska became the first state to enact regulations that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/alaska-is-officially-the-first-state-to-legalize-on-site-marijuana-consumption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provide for the on-site use option at dispensaries<\/a>. Colorado followed suit with legislation approved that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/bills-allowing-marijuana-deliveries-and-tasting-rooms-head-toward-colorado-governors-desk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legalized cannabis \u201ctasting rooms\u201d and \u201cmarijuana hospitality establishments\u201d<\/a>\u00a0where adults could freely use cannabis.
