Cedric Glover (D), would make it so possession of up to 14 grams of cannabis would be punishable by a $100 fine without the threat of jail time. It cleared the Senate Judiciary C Committee in a 3-2 vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHouse Bill 652 it seeks to address a problem that I think many of us have recognized over the years,\u201d Glover said in opening remarks, adding that while opinions on full marijuana legalization vary, there\u2019s widespread acceptance that low-level possession should not lead to incarceration or felony convictions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MayorGlover?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@MayorGlover<\/a> is now presenting HB 652, which would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana in Louisiana, ending harsh criminal penalties that can ruin lives and it saves taxpayer dollars. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Lalege?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">#Lalege<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/R6RXgGjas8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/R6RXgGjas8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Louisiana Democrats (@LaDemos) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LaDemos\/status\/1397238874934554635?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">May 25, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>If the decriminalization bill is approved on the Senate floor without amendments it will head to the governor\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p>This development comes as Louisiana lawmakers consider a number of separate marijuana bills this session, including one that would allow patients to access smokeable cannabis products. That <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.la.gov\/legis\/BillInfo.aspx?i=240303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measure<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/louisiana-smokeable-medical-marijuana-bill-heads-to-senate-floor-as-recreational-legalization-vote-delayed-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has also passed the House<\/a> and is pending action on the Senate floor.<\/p>\n<p>A complementary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.la.gov\/legis\/BillInfo.aspx?i=240468\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill<\/a> to tax flower marijuana is also set to be taken up by the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The House additionally passed a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.la.gov\/legis\/BillInfo.aspx?i=240661\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resolution<\/a> on Monday requesting the legislature conduct a formal study on the impacts of recreational marijuana legalization prior to the start of the 2022 session.<\/p>\n<p>While advocates are encouraged by the modest reforms advancing, there is disappointment that a bill to enact adult-use legalization was pulled by its sponsor this month after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/louisiana-marijuana-legalization-effort-stalls-after-house-rejects-complementary-tax-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House defeated a companion bill to tax recreational sales<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rep.
