That includes 73 percent of Republicans, he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With all the discussion on marijuana legalization, I thought it was important to learn where my constituents were on the issue before we vote so I commissioned an independent poll of my district. <\/p>\n<p>75% (73% of R\u2019s) favor legalization in District 53.  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/lalege?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">#lalege<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WinWithJMC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@WinWithJMC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tanner Magee (@TannerDMagee) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TannerDMagee\/status\/1388129708613804037?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 30, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>Other than pulling out the support of GOP voters, the lawmaker didn\u2019t provide any other demographic breakdowns and he didn\u2019t reveal details about the survey\u2019s methodology.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a demographic breakdown in the statewide UNO poll revealed trends that are more in line with previous polling on legalization. Younger people and those who identify as Democrats are the most likely to favor ending prohibition, with 68 percent of those 18-35 and 66 percent of Democrats saying the state should legalize. By contrast, 38 percent of those 65 and older and 44 percent of Republicans said they support the reform proposal.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44355\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44355\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-44355\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-29-at-2.28.10-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"324\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-44355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via UNO.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There were nominal differences in levels of support between genders, education levels and income.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44356\" style=\"width: 486px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44356\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-44356\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-29-at-2.29.00-PM-1024x649-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"476\" height=\"302\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-44356\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via UNO.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A majority of voters in five out of six congressional districts in the state said they favor legalizing adult-use cannabis.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44357\" style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44357\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-44357\" src=\"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-29-at-2.28.51-PM-1024x657-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"479\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-44357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via UNO.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uno.edu\/media\/24946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a>, which involved interviews with 692 registered voters from April 26-28, comes as Louisiana legislators are dedicating significant attention to a slew of marijuana reform measures.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/louisiana-lawmakers-approve-marijuana-licensing-bill-in-anticipation-of-legalization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved a bill to impose fees and set up a marijuana business licensing system<\/a> if legalization is enacted, while another measure to bring the state\u2019s hemp program up to speed with federal regulations also advanced.<\/p>\n<p>The former measure will only take effect if a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/louisiana-lawmakers-approve-marijuana-legalization-bill-in-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">separate bill to legalize cannabis<\/a> in the state is enacted. That legislation, sponsored by Rep. Possession of up to two and a half pounds of cannabis would be lawful. Regulators would be tasked with creating a permit for adults to grow up to six plants for personal use.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the House Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development Committee advanced legislation concerning hemp regulations on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by House Speaker Clay Schexnayder (R), the bill covers a lot of ground, but it\u2019s primary function is to align Louisiana\u2019s hemp program with the federal rules for the crop that were finalized and took effect under the U.S. Department of Agriculture last month.<\/p>\n<p>The governor of Louisiana said on Tuesday\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/louisiana-governor-says-he-has-great-interest-in-marijuana-legalization-bill-advancing-in-legislature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that he has \u201cgreat interest\u201d in the legalization legislation<\/a>, which represents a notable departure from his typical dismissive response to questions about the policy change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I almost always do, I will take a look at the bill as it arrives on my desk and see what it contains and what amendments have been added to it,\u201d the governor said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to speculate now on that, but I do have great interest in that bill and what it says, especially if it does make it up to the fourth floor. I\u2019ll take a look at it at that point and then make sure that you all know exactly how I feel about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a bill sponsored by Magee to allow medical marijuana patients in Louisiana <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/louisiana-lawmakers-approve-bill-to-legalize-medical-marijuana-flower-for-patients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to access raw cannabis flower<\/a> cleared a key House committee last week. The full chamber also recently approved complementary legislation on taxing those products if they are legalized.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the legislature significantly expanded the state\u2019s medical marijuana program by passing a bill that allows physicians to recommend cannabis to patients for any debilitating condition that they deem fit instead of from the limited list of maladies that\u2019s used under current law.<\/p>\n<p>Gov.
