\nthe industry. In order to help shape product development and strategic
\ndecision-making, companies need to ask fundamental questions, like who buys the
\nproduct and what do they use it for? <\/p>\n
\nhelp fill these knowledge gaps, NorCal Cannabis Company undertook a first-of-its-kind
\nstudy of California\u2019s cannabis consumers. Using an online panel, the survey
\nquestioned 1529 people and represents of all California cannabis consumers 21
\nyears and older.<\/p>\n
\nGraham is the VP of Business Intelligence at NorCal Cannabis Company. He helps
\nthe company make smarter business decisions using data. According to Graham,
\nthey decided to carry out this research because \u201cthere were many fundamental
\nquestions about the California cannabis consumer that were unanswered, so we
\ndecided to conduct research on our own.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nto Graham, the most surprising thing he discovered during the research process
\nwas that many of the preconceptions about cannabis aren\u2019t true. So they decided
\nto group their findings into five myths:<\/p>\n
\n1<\/strong>: Recreational users
\nget high for fun, while medical users are focused on their health. <\/p>\n
\nreality is, most cannabis consumers use cannabis for both recreational and
\nmedical reasons.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n2<\/strong>: Women are an
\nemerging market segment of new cannabis consumers. <\/p>\n
\nfact, women already use cannabis as much as men.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n3<\/strong>: A handful of brands
\nare dominating the California cannabis market. <\/p>\n
\ntruth is that no brand has achieved a significant foothold in the market.<\/em>
\n<\/em><\/p>\n
\n4<\/strong>: All Californians
\nhave access to legal cannabis. <\/p>\n
\nin reality, they don\u2019t.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n5<\/strong>: Consumers are
\nmigrating from dispensaries to delivery. <\/p>\n
\nconcerns us is the lack of availability that exists for regulated cannabis for
\nso many people,\u201d says Graham on the finding. \u201cThe research shows how cannabis
\ngives relief for so many people for things like pain, insomnia and depression.
\nCalifornia voters approved the legalization of cannabis, but people still do
\nnot have legal access throughout most of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nbelieves that the study is important because it shows that cannabis helps with
\n\u201ca variety of fundamental and important ways\u201d and it isn\u2019t a simple case of
\n\u2018recreational\u2019 and \u2018medicinal\u2019<\/p>\n
\nwould like people to understand that many of the assumptions they have about
\ncannabis consumers, cannabis usage, and cannabis availability may be wrong,\u201d
\nsays Graham.<\/p>\n
