Tomorrow, Canada will become the second country to defy all of that international drug law business and legalize marijuana for recreational use. It is a proverbial middle finger in the face of decades of prohibition brought on from the days when marijuana was still considered one of the most dangerous drugs in the world. The new law, as outlined by the Canadian government, will give people at least 18 years of age the freedom to possess, use and grow marijuana without the risk of a cop stepping in and dragging them to jail.

As you might imagine, this is an exciting time for Canadian cannabis users. Some of them have been plotting and planning all summer just how to ring in this momentous occasion. Most cannot wait to show the rest of the planet exactly what they are missing. We can’t say that we blame them.

For the die-hards, those whose faces will surely be plastered all over the evening news within the next 48 hours, the party begins tonight — “Legalization Eve” — with other festivities getting underway hours later on the first official day of legal sales. Although we do not have any concrete statistics in front of us, we imagine more Canadians are using vacation time this week than ever before.

In Toronto, the northern nation’s largest city, there is a slew of celebrations going down over the next couple of days. Here are a few to sink your teeth into if you happen to be in the neighborhood:

Bud Drop At Mod Club — October 16

This event is a New Year’s Eve style celebration for cannabis user not wanting to waste time getting in their first legal toke. The cannabis website Leafly is hosting this free event for people 19 and older, which is set to get underway at the Mod Club at 722 College Street. The festivities begin at 9 p.m. and last until 2 a.m. After that, you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay there.

Wake and Bake End of Prohibition Party – October 17

After leaving the bud drop at the Mod Club, perhaps the next move could be ducking into an all-night diner to tame the munchies. Hang tight for just a few hours and then head over to one of the areas favorite hemp shops called Friendly Stranger for some wake and bake activities. It is a free event that starts at 7 a.m. and runs until 2 a.m. – just when it is appropriate to wake and bake all over again.

Learn About Marijuana Pop-Up – October 17

On the first day of legalization, there is a learning center pop-up happening at 753 Queen West. The goal of this event is to give people 19 and older a crash course on cannabis: teach them how to buy it, offer safety tips, etc. This event is also a free, and it lasts from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Legalization Day Blowout at Trinity Bellwoods – October 17

For those people who already have a grip on the ins-and-outs of marijuana, a huge smoke session is going down at Trinity Bellwoods Park. This is the spot where cannabis enthusiasts gather every 420 to pay homage to the leaf. Organizers expect somewhere around 3,000 people to join in the fun. Blast off is at 4:20 p.m. and will last until everyone is out of weed. Although there will inevitably be some kind-hearted citizens willing to share their stash, the event is a bring-your-own-smoke kind of deal. Don’t mooch!

Up In Smoke Legalization Concert – October 17

Indie88 is hosting a big event to celebrate the first day of marijuana legalization. The 19 and older event is being held at the Phoenix Concert Theatre and will feature live performances from the Japandroids, The Dirty NIL and SURE. “Cannabis will be allowed in the venue for personal use only. This means that if the security guard suspects you are carrying multiple units for sale, the security team has the right to confiscate and not allow you in the venue,” according to the event website. Hopefully, you got tickets early because the show is now sold out. However, the radio station is giving some away. Call and harass them.

Toronto Cannabis Comedy Festival – October 17

There is nothing better than the laughter one experiences when high. So, what better way to celebrate the first official day of legalization than with a comedy show. According to the festival’s website, “Canada’s best stoner comics” will gather at the LIThuanian House for a night of performances beginning at 7 pm. The event, which promises “no boring industry talk,” is expected to sell out, so you might want to grab tickets while you can. Only those 19 and older can attend.

If you live in Canada, we are positive there are similar events set to pop off in your neck of the woods. Check your local entertainment magazines and news sites. If you haven’t called in sick to work already or arranged to burn up some of that vacation time, now might be a good time to put that call into the big boss. Here’s the thing, while marijuana is not going anywhere, the first day of legalization is a historic occasion that should be celebrated by those who have watched the cannabis movement come this far. This could perhaps be the catalyst to more legalization moves all over the world. So enjoy it!

But before you go off unprepared tomorrow, be sure to check out a couple of our guides for some advice on how to maintain those all day highs.

TELL US, are you celebrating Canadian cannabis legalization tomorrow?

The post Canadian Marijuana Legalization Parties In Toronto appeared first on Cannabis Now.

Read More: Canadian Marijuana Legalization Parties In Toronto

Well, folks, it’s almost time for a legal toke in the Great White North.
