After over two hours discussing everything from simulation theory to why roofing torches aren\u2019t flamethrowers to the fact a 300-mile range is pretty reasonable for an electric car, Joe Rogan and Elon Musk sparked up a blunt.<\/p>\n
It was close to midnight on Sept. 6 and the pair were conversing for an episode of Rogan\u2019s podcast, \u201cThe Joe Rogan Experience.\u201d On the morning of Sept. 7, stock for Tesla \u2014 the electric car company of which Musk is the CEO \u2014 had plummeted 9 percent in response to the video of Musk smoking cannabis.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the podcast, Rogan had threatened to lock the door on Musk\u2019s manager and light a joint because the lines of thought Musk was exploring were so mind-bending. The cause of Rogan\u2019s excitement: Musk\u2019s belief in simulation theory, which is the theory that we\u2019re all living inside of a supercomputer indistinguishable from true reality. However, Musk told Rogan not to worry because it was \u201cprobably boring outside the simulation,\u201d so Rogan pulled back on his initial spark-up threats.<\/p>\n
A couple hours later, Musk picked up one of the trinkets on Rogan\u2019s studio table. Rogan told Musk that he had purchased it in the hope it would be a good joint holder, but it was a little small.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt only holds one,\u201d Rogan noted, as he handed Musk a blunt so he could see the dimensions in action. It\u2019s worth noting that it appears the blunt was, in fact, a Backwoods<\/a>, but visual confirmation is tough.<\/p>\n Upon receiving the blunt back from Musk, Rogan gave his trusted producer Jaime Vernon a mischievous look and proceeded to spark up the blunt.<\/p>\n With a dash of shock on his face, Musk asked, \u201cIs that a joint or cigar?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s marijuana inside of a tobacco leaf,\u201d Rogan replied.<\/p>\n Musk called it \u201cposh tobacco\u201d with a smile before Rogan asked him if he\u2019d ever smoked a blunt before.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I have once before,\u201d Musk retorted, before letting out a booming laugh.<\/p>\n Rogan asked Musk if he couldn\u2019t smoke the blunt because of stockholders.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s legal right?\u201d Musk asked Rogan.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s totally legal,\u201d Rogan replied. The comedian records his podcasts in his private studio in Los Angeles, where adult consumption of cannabis in private is legal.<\/p>\n Musk grabbed the blunt.<\/p>\n \u201cHow does that work? Do people get upset at you if you do certain things?\u201d Rogan asked.<\/p>\n Then, in the greatest crossover between reusable rockets and cannabis of all time, Musk shook his head no and ripped the blunt.<\/p>\n Rogan told Musk that the combination of marijuana and tobacco is wonderful and that he was first turned on to it by comedian Charlie Murphy<\/a>. He went on to say that Dave Chappelle had rekindled his enthusiasm. Musk noted that he believes alcohol was a drug that \u201chad been grandfathered in,\u201d as he looked at his whiskey.<\/p>\n All was well in the fabric of space-cannabis-time for about ten minutes. Then, Musk started receiving texts.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s my friends calling, saying, \u2018What the hell are you doing smoking weed?\u2019\u201d Musk replied.<\/p>\n \u201cIs that bad for you? It\u2019s legal,\u201d Rogan asked.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not, you know. I\u2019m not a regular smoker of weed,\u201d Musk replied.<\/p>\n Rogan asked how often Musk indulged in cannabis.<\/p>\n \u201cAlmost never,\u201d Musk replied.<\/p>\n Rogan dropped a fantastically inquisitive \u201cHmm\u2026\u201d before asking Musk if the cannabis had affected him. Musk said he wasn\u2019t actually noticing any effects. This might be because, at certain points, it appears that Musk was not actually inhaling the smoke from the blunt, leading a few Twitter users to accuse the Tesla CEO of \u201cpulling a Bill Clinton.\u201d<\/p>\n Later in the conversation, Musk said that he believes it\u2019s fine that so many people love cannabis, but that he \u201cdoesn\u2019t find that it\u2019s very good for productivity.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFor you?,\u201d Rogan asked.<\/p>\n \u201cFor me,\u201d Musk replied.<\/p>\n Rogan dropped a \u201cYou like coffee<\/a> better?\u201d comment that flew over Musk\u2019s head now that it was in low-earth orbit.<\/p>\n \u201cI like to get things done. I like to be useful.
