EN: Peter is deputy chief of police and Director of Operations at the Belgian police in Brecht. For years he fought in the front line of the war on drugs and believed he was serving society doing so. Meanwhile, his brother Tom was struggling with an addiction to hard drugs. In 2006 he died of an overdose of heroin, cocaine and medicines. Muyshondt wrote a moving book about his relationship with Tom, \u2018We were brothers\u2019 (2015), and increasingly doubted the validity of the drug war. In his second book \u2018Policy on speed \u2013 How the drug war stifles all sense of reason\u2019 (2017), he argues in favor of legalizing all drugs. In doing so, he does what no Dutch colleague dares, in a country where the taboos around drugs are much stronger than in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
