{"id":26138,"date":"2018-05-12T15:00:20","date_gmt":"2018-05-12T23:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2018\/05\/12\/cura-cannabis-goes-international\/"},"modified":"2018-05-13T00:41:30","modified_gmt":"2018-05-13T08:41:30","slug":"cura-cannabis-goes-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannabiscultivatornews.com\/home\/index.php\/2018\/05\/12\/cura-cannabis-goes-international\/","title":{"rendered":"Cura Cannabis Goes International"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Cura Cannabis Solutions\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">is in the process of closing out\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">a $20 million funding round that doubles their valuation from $200 million to a cool $400 million over the last eight months, said the company\u2019s co-founder and president, Cameron Forni. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Having gained amazing traction since its launch in September 2015, then making legal cannabis history recently by reporting $18 million in sales for the first quarter of 2018, investors were breaking down the doors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe were oversubscribed\u2026 we had to turn people away,\u201d said Forni. \u201cThere was more interest than opportunity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Not bad for a start-up that began three years ago in Forni\u2019s Portland living room where he and his wife Lauren sometimes stayed up all night filling cartridges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe had $44,000 in cash and we\u2019d maxed out our credit cards when\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">the buyer at\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Nectar said he\u2019d buy them all if we could we fill 500 cartridges\u2026 ASAP,\u201d Forni said. \u201cWe started at 3 p.m. and worked until 4:45 a.m. the next morning. That was our first sale, now we\u2019re the largest chain on the West Coast.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Cura quickly became the largest cannabis company in Oregon \u2014 currently holding 25 percent of the state\u2019s market share \u2014 then moved into California and Nevada\u2019s medical cannabis markets in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">With sales of Cura\u2019s flagship Select oil, winner of Dope Magazine\u2019s 2017 Best Concentrates Award, California\u2019s now legal <a href=\"http:\/\/cannabisnow.com\/inside-one-first-legal-cannabis-sales-california\/\">recreational cannabis<\/a> market is outpacing Oregon\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">And the beat goes on. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt\u2019s been like riding on a rocket ship up, up, up every month,\u201d said Forni. \u201cNo slowing down, no leveling out\u2026 just up.\u201d There were months in 2016 when the company doubled in size.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">But, what does one of the largest cannabis brands in the country do in view of our\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">anti-cannabis\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Attorney General, Jeff Sessions? Head north.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Cura &amp; The International Market<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Cura is setting up shop in Canada where full legalization of recreational cannabis is expected to take effect this <a href=\"http:\/\/cannabisnow.com\/canada-back-on-track-to-legalizing-marijuana-this-summer\/\">July<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Forni, who \u201ccouldn\u2019t be happier\u201d about the plan, said they will work with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cannabiscomplianceinc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cannabis Compliance Inc.<\/a> (CCI), a company that deals with over 90 percent of licensing in Canada.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019re a perfect partner for Canada in terms of the regulation processes. This will be our launching pad to export to European markets.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">This is a major step in achieving Cura\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/curacan.com\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mission<\/a> to become the leading provider of cannabis oil to consumers and premium edible brands in the U.S. and international markets.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Although, <a href=\"http:\/\/selectoil.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Select oil<\/a> vape cartridges won\u2019t be legal in Canada until early 2019 and its oils for edibles will be available later in the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">But that\u2019s fine, says Forni, who calls himself a \u201chands-on operator all the way\u201d and spends literally half his life flying from place to place overseeing just about every detail of the company\u2019s activities. It takes time to set everything up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhen we launch in each state, we start from scratch,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to make sure everything is clean, the grow sites have to be pesticide free, which is not always easy as sometimes pesticides get blown around from neighboring farms. Then we build the extraction site, the work sites, etc. It\u2019s always a bit disconcerting as regulations are different in every state.
