It would give people the freedom to possess up to 2.5 ounces of weed on the streets, while permitting them to have up to 10 ounces in the privacy of their own home.

The regulatory affairs that come with the initiative create a recreational market very similar to what is currently under way with the medical sector.

“This is the most responsible way to regulate marijuana,” Hovey told the South Bend Tribune. “There are already those out there who are operating medical marijuana business. Burying our heads in the sand and ignoring the adult-use side of the marijuana market isn’t going to solve any problems.”

It was just last year that a group called MILegalize attempted to bring a fully legal pot market to the state. However, the organization ended up getting sabotaged by a series of unfortunate events that included the disqualification of thousands of signatures – killing the campaign.

Conservative lawmakers did everything in their power to prevent legalization from happening in 2016. And while they were ultimately successful, their high jinks only prevented the movement from making strides in 2016. As long as the CRMLA continues to follow the rules of the initiative process, there is absolutely nothing any of the state’s legislative or judicial forces can do to stop legalization from taking hold next year.

“We learned a lesson from (MI Legalize),” Hovey said. “And we’re working with them to collect signatures through their volunteer effort.”

One of the latest polls shows that nearly 60 percent of Michigan voters are fully prepared to support marijuana legalization if it makes it on the ballot in the next election.

TELL US, are you working towards cannabis legalization in your home state?

The post Michigan Poised to End Marijuana Prohibition in 2018 appeared first on Cannabis Now.

Read More: Michigan Poised to End Marijuana Prohibition in 2018

Support for cannabis legalization grows in Michigan.
